Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 2026-05-31

1. Acceptance of terms

By downloading, installing or using the Pausix mobile application or this website (collectively, the “Service”), you agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions (“Terms”). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.

2. Description of the Service

Pausix is a network speed limiter that uses a local VPN-style approach to rate-limit traffic on your device. It is intended for personal, development and quality-assurance use cases such as simulating slow networks, reducing bandwidth usage and testing app behavior.

3. License

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use Pausix on devices you own or control. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, lease, sublicense, reverse engineer or attempt to extract the source code of the Service except where such restrictions are prohibited by applicable law.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • Violate any applicable law, regulation or third-party right.
  • Interfere with networks you do not own or are not authorised to administer.
  • Circumvent or interfere with usage limits, parental controls, employer policies or other legitimate restrictions placed on a device.
  • Distribute malware, conduct attacks against any system, or otherwise misuse the Service in a way that may harm others.
  • Misrepresent the Service or its capabilities to other users.

5. Platform limitations & no guarantee of speed

Pausix relies on operating-system VPN APIs to apply throttling on-device. Its effectiveness depends on the platform, the device, the network and the behavior of the apps generating traffic. In particular:

  • The throttling engine is dual-stack: it applies rate-limits to IPv4 and IPv6 traffic over UDP and TCP using shared per-direction token buckets. ICMPv6 control messages (neighbour discovery, MLD, errors) bypass the limiter; ICMPv4 is dropped while the engine is active.
  • On iOS, real packet-level throttling runs on physical devices via a Network Extension packet tunnel; the iOS Simulator cannot host a packet tunnel and so does not throttle.
  • Measured throughput may differ from the configured limit due to packet bursts, protocol overhead, retransmissions and other factors outside the app’s control.
  • No guarantee is made that Pausix will limit every protocol, every app or every connection on your device.

6. User responsibility

You are responsible for how you use the Service and for ensuring that your use complies with applicable law and with any policies (for example, employer or institutional policies) that apply to the device or network on which you run the Service. You are responsible for any data charges your mobile carrier may impose.

7. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory or otherwise. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event will Pausix, its developers or affiliates be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill or other intangible losses, arising out of or related to your use of, or inability to use, the Service. Where liability cannot be excluded under applicable law, our aggregate liability is limited to the amount you paid (if any) for the Service in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the liability.

9. Third-party services and app stores

Pausix integrates Google’s Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Analytics SDKs to collect crash diagnostics and aggregate usage metrics, as described in our Privacy Policy. By using the Service you acknowledge that this technical data is transmitted to and processed by Google on our behalf. Your use of these features is also subject to the Google Terms of Service and the Firebase Terms of Service. We are not responsible for the policies, availability or practices of Google or any other third party.

Pausix may also be distributed through third-party app stores (such as Google Play or the Apple App Store). Your use of the Service obtained through any such store is additionally subject to that store’s terms, and we are not responsible for the policies or practices of those stores.

10. Diagnostic and analytics data

You acknowledge and agree that, subject to the consent and opt-out mechanisms described in the Privacy Policy:

  • Crash reports (stack traces, device model, OS version, app version and similar technical metadata) may be transmitted to Firebase Crashlytics when the app crashes or encounters an unhandled error.
  • Aggregate, automatically-generated events (such as app opens, screen views and basic feature interactions) may be transmitted to Firebase Analytics together with pseudonymous identifiers.
  • This diagnostic and analytics data does not include your network traffic, browsing history, packet contents or the specific speed limits you configure.
  • You can withdraw consent or disable Crashlytics and Analytics from the in-app privacy settings, after which no further data is sent from your installation.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any acts, omissions or data handling by Google, Apple, your mobile carrier or any other third party in connection with the transmission, storage or processing of such diagnostic and analytics data.

11. Changes to the Service or Terms

We may modify, suspend or discontinue parts of the Service at any time. We may also update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws applicable at the developer’s primary place of business, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Nothing in these Terms affects mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence.
